A Free OpenFoam VKI Seminar - Simulating sloshing dynamics: a practical guide using OpenFOAM
Registrations are closed! Another free online seminar on this topic will be organized in the coming months. We will keep you informed.
The event aims to bring together OpenFOAM users as well as those interested in potential applications of the code, both for academic and industrial purposes. The seminar will be held in hybrid mode, and it will be organized in the following way:
- 15.00 Welcome
- 15.05 Presentation of the von Karman Institute and their main applications of OpenFOAM
- 15.35 Session on “Simulating sloshing dynamics: a practical guide using OpenFOAM” by Antonio Cantiani
Sloshing phenomena, prevalent in engineering applications ranging from aerospace to maritime industries, as well as in nuclear applications, present unique challenges that demand accurate modeling techniques. This seminar offers a comprehensive exploration of sloshing dynamics, guiding participants through the process of modifying OpenFOAM v9 solvers to incorporate variable gravity acceleration and implementing appropriate boundary conditions to properly model experimental setups.
Participants will gain valuable insights into the intricacies of sloshing dynamics simulation, learning how to harness the power of OpenFOAM to accurately model fluid behavior. The seminar will combine the theoretical background and practical demonstrations to follow step-by-step, providing a unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of sloshing dynamics and enhance your proficiency in using OpenFOAM for these types of simulations. - 16.45 Survey on interests in research with OpenFOAM
All the material to follow the tutorial will be provided to the participants during the event, and an online platform will be created to share material and create discussions.
The event is organized four times a year and we would like to invite you to share your applications and implementations.
