DESCRIPTION:We are happy to invite you to the fifth seminar about OpenFOAM 
 organized by von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics.
 The event aims to 
 bring together OpenFOAM users as well as those interested in potential app
 lications of the code\, both for academic and industrial purposes. The sem
 inar will be held in hybrid mode\, and it will be organized in the followi

 Session on “Coupling OpenFOAM with external codes via preCICE” by G
 erasimos Chourdakis\, Research Associate at the University of Stuttgart\, 
 Institute for Parallel and Distributed Systems.
 While OpenFOAM can simul
 ate some multi-physics phenomena\, such as conjugate heat transfer\, or (w
 ith extensions) fluid-structure interaction\, it can also be a powerful co
 mponent in more complex coupled simulations\, often involving specialized 
 codes. Instead of creating a single code for a new application (an alterna
 tive approach with its own perks and challenges)\, the coupling library pr
 eCICE allows reusing existing codes (such as OpenFOAM\, CalculiX\, FEniCS\
 , deal.II\, SU2\, or even your own in-house code) to solve coupled problem
 s in a black-box\, partitioned way. Each code writes and reads data on a s
 pecified boundary or overlapping domain region\, while preCICE takes care 
 of communication\, space and time interpolation\, and advancing the coupli
 ng in a numerically efficient way\, reducing the number of external iterat
 ions over time. Developed by a team of researchers over more than ten year
 s\, preCICE is now a coupling ecosystem with an established community\, ma
 nifested on the dedicated yearly workshops and its online forum\, and is i
 n the process of standardization of its community contributions. This semi
 nar will introduce the main concepts of the preCICE library\, providing st
 arting points to use it in practice\, and will focus on coupling OpenFOAM\
 , demonstrating hands-on examples of coupled problems.
